There are basically two types of New Zealand monuments - Upright Headstones and Lawn Plaques.
Upright Headstones
Headstone shapes can be customised to suit families’ requests or there are many traditional shapes to choose from. Sizes vary depending on budget, family preference, and cemetery guidelines.
Lawn Plaques
Granite or Bronze plaques are usually used as ashes memorials. But it is also quite common for families to purchase ashes plots but not inter ashes - just to mark the plot with a plaque as a focal point. Ashes may have already been scattered somewhere special for the family or placed in an urn and kept at home. An advantage of granite comparing to bronze is that an additional inscription can be added at a later date.
